‘Rudraksha’ – A Tool of Personal Welfare

We have all seen people wearing Rudraksha beads on necks, wrists, and arms. And more often than not, we generalize them into the ‘religious’ category.

What if we were to tell you, wearing a Rudraksha is more scientific than religious, and it can help you in numerous ways to improve your overall wellbeing? Would you believe us? Yes, after reading this article, you would.

What is a Rudraksha anyway?

Rudraksha beads come from the blueberries of the Elaeocarpus family of trees, they are large evergreen broad-leaved trees which are found mostly in India, Nepal, and Indonesia.

The word ‘Rudraksha’ is made up of two Sanskrit words ‘Rudra’ and ‘Aksha’ meaning Lord Shiva and teardrops respectively. Rudraksha, therefore, means ‘The Tear of Lord Shiva’. There is a whole story behind this but we’ll not get into that in this article.

Rudraksha beads are categorized basis the number of seeds they have inside the bead, also often called as ‘Mukhi’ meaning ‘the clefts or furrows or faces on the surface’. There can be 1 – 21 seeds inside a bead, most common being 1 – 14.

Why Rudraksha is so significant?

Apart from having significant spiritual importance, Rudraksha beads are also used as medicine in Ayurveda for both as preventive and curative practices.

Extensive studies have been done on various aspects of Rudraksha and its effects on the human body. It is found that Rudraksha beads are electromagnetic in nature when worn around the chest, they enhance and align with our own body field.

The metal components like radium, copper, manganese, iron, gold, and silver are present in alkaloid forms in the beads and react in a positive manner when they come in contact with the skin.

Rudraksha seeds are bipolar seeds. Higher the Mukhi count, higher the circles of magnetism. Rudraksha helps in increasing the magnetic field of wearer’s body as it helps in combating diseases and aging.

What are the benefits of Rudraksha?

  1. Due to the constant rubbing of the beads around the neck and the force exerted around the heart region of a person’s body. Rudraksha beads help one stabilize the heart rate, prevent problems like cardiac arrest or hypertension and maintain the blood circulation.
  2. Rudraksha beads can hold on to negative energies around without letting them harm us.
  3. Rudraksha beads, when kept in water, make it a rich source of Vitamin C which helps improve the anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties in our bodies.
  4. Since the beads are anti-bacterial and pure, these are used by devotees for chanting.
  5. Rudraksha beads generate positive vibrations, which results in gaining emotional stability.
  6. The beads also help control blood pressure, diabetes and are cardioprotective in nature.

In Srimad Devi Bhagavatam (11.6.39), it is said that,

The greatness of Rudraksham is such as it can make a king out of a poor man.

That is not to say that Rudraksha is only meant for making one prosperous. Look at it this way, Rudraksha makes one correctly aligned in terms of thoughts, energy, and confidence so much so that the person ends up being prosperous on his/her own.

Why it is important to have a genuine Rudraksha?

Traditionally, Malas are made available by people who held it as a sacred duty in their lives. For generations, they made a living out of it. But once the demand soared, commerce came in.

Today in India, there is another seed called Bhadraksha which is a poisonous seed, which grows extensively in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and that area. Both of these seeds look the same. It is difficult to make out the difference. Only experts equipped with various instruments and techniques can detect the difference.

Bhadraksha should not be worn on the body, but these are being sold as authentic beads in many places. So it is important that you get your mala from a trusted source. Even in the case of genuine Rudrakshas, it is advisable to choose the right Rudraksha based on one’s time of birth and other factors.

One of the trusted sources is Rudrajyoothi, based on your individual characteristics and purpose, experts at Rudrajyoothi can suggest the most suitable Rudraksha combination for you.
